Owned and operated by leading Record Producer and songwriter management company Worlds End (America) Inc., Beverly Martel is an independent record label and publishing company. With no specific agenda but to release music it likes, the label continues to seek out and partner with new talent.
Label principal Sandy Roberton is a British/American record producer and Music Business owner.
He was born in Scotland and raised in Kenya. He moved to London in his late teens and was one half of a duo, Rick and Sandy, who recorded several singles for Mercury (with Producer Tom Springfield, brother of Dusty) and Decca Records, including ‘Lost my Girl’ produced by Les Reed. Roberton had a solo single for Columbia under the name Sandy, a cover of Neil Diamond’s Solitary Man and a Bob Dylan cover, Baby, You’ve been on my mind under the name Lucien Alexander for Polydor. Roberton then ran the London office of Chess Records publishing companies Arc Music, Regent Music, and Jewel Music; who’s writers included Jimmy Reed, Jerry Butler, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, Howlin’ Wolf, Chuck Berry, Sunny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters, and Bo Diddley and also the London office of Bill Lowery’s company Lowery Music who’s writers included Joe South, Tommy Roe, Mac Davis, and Billy Joe Royal. He left to partner in the publishing companies of Mike & Richard Vernon’s Blue Horizon Records.
Later Roberton formed his own company, September Productions, and Produced or Managed such artists as The Liverpool Scene, Robin Scott, Shelagh McDonald, Keith Christmas, Harold McNair, Steeleye Span, Tim Hart & Maddy Prior, Mickey Jupp’s Legend, Synanthesia, Al Jones, PC Kent, Longdancer, Everyone, Ian Matthews, John Martyn, Plainsong, Andy Roberts, Decameron, Shirley Collins, Gay & Terry Woods, Hard Meat, and Marc Ellington. He produced the first three Steeleye Span albums, ”Hark! The Village Wait” (1970), ”Please to See the King” (1971) and ”Ten Man Mop, or Mr. Reservoir Butler Rides Again” (1971). He also formed Rockburgh Records, releasing records by Gay and Terry Woods, Ian Matthews, Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons , The Woods Band, Wilco Johnson, Finch, Kevin Burke, Revolver, Beaver, and Allan Taylor.
He formed Worlds End Producer Management with Paul Brown in 1980, moving its base to Los Angeles in 1985 where he became the sole owner. The company became a leading management company in this field with over 75 producers during the 90’s and early 2000’s. The company was involved in the production of 1000’s of albums and continues to this day. It also has a sister Record label Beverly Martel releasing acts such as The Philistines Jr, The Walker Roaders, Amelia Carey, Aubrey Haddard, Tom Forest, The Wild State, April Ivy, Aztx, Apropos, The High Divers, Rowan, Mozella, Liquid Monk, Gildor, Josh Difford, Courtesy Tier, Avec Sans, Partials, Curt Castle, and Lions in the Street.
In 2006 Roberton partnered with his daughter, Niki Roberton, on the label Iamsound Records releasing such acts as Florence & The Machine, Lord Huron, Little Boots, Telepathe, Charli XCX, The Black Ghosts, TOLD, Sunny Day Sets fire, Fool’s Gold, Bleeding Knees club, HMLTD, Wills, LOYAL, Men, Salem, Nikki Lane, IO Echo, Kate Boy, and New Villager.
